I'm researching the myth that "Old Age is Typically Associated with Increased Dissatisfaction and Senility" for one of my Psychology classes. I have to do a 30 minute presentation on it in class. I will be showing some of the funny YouTube videos I have found on the topic. So I thought I'd share them with you all as well! Enjoy!!
Watch the last couple in this video.
If you know of any funny movie clips with old people in them send 'em on over! :]

In Oregon
You sit in your car and they pump your gas for you. It's very different. And a little weird. You can't even pump your gas yourself if you want to--it's illegal!
Because of that, this happened a few years back:
My grandparents were visiting us in Arizona and my mom, my grandma, my sisters and I were heading out to go shopping but we had to stop and get gas first. We got to the gas station where my mom and grandma realized that neither of them knew how to pump gas. They had literally never done it before! My sisters and I were too young so we didn't know how either so my mom had to go inside and ask the gas station attendant for help. I'm sure that made for an amusing story for the attendant. A 40 year-old and a 60 year-old who didn't know how to pump gas. It's crazy to think that you could go such a long time without pumping gas. I am glad that I learned but I also don't mind sitting in my car in Oregon while they pump my gas, wash my windows, and just be overall nice to me. It's a fun change!

Race Says Funny Things {Again}
Race has been really sick lately and has been on a lot of drugs. Drugs make him say some goofy things. The other morning as Race was waking up from a Nyquil induced sleep we had this concersation:
Race: Emma, I don't have insurance.
Emma: I know...neither do I. What's that have to do with anything?
Race: I can't go to the hospital.
Emma: Do you need to go to the hospital?
Race: No.
And then he went back to sleep. Haha. The whole conversation was just so out of nowhere and random that it made me laugh. And Race didn't remember it at all when I asked him about it. Insurance would be a good thing to get eventually though. It would nice to be able to get Race some more legit drugs so he won't be sick anymore. :(

Race Says Funny Things
More specifically Race says funny things before he is about to pass gas aka cut the cheese, break wind, rip one, toot, fart, or whatever else you might call it. I still haven't figured out why Race feels the need to tell me before he does this but for some reason he does and is constantly coming up with new goofy ways to let me know what's about to happen. {Sometimes it is a nice warning for me to move away but usually what he says is very misleading}
Here are some of the silly things he says {and my typical responses}:
Hopefully this wasn't too gross or awkward for anyone. Race and I were just laughing the other day at how many different things he has come up with and how I recognize them right off the bat and give him the same response every time. It's fun having a husband to laugh at these things with.
Here are some of the silly things he says {and my typical responses}:
- Race: Emma, I have a surprise for you! Emma: Ew! Get away!
- Race: No matter what happens in the next ten seconds just remember that I love you! Emma: Ew! Get away!
- Race: I'm so sorry! Emma: Ew! Get away!
- Race: I have something important to say... Emma: Ew! Get away!
- Race: I should be the big spoon right now... Emma: Ew! Get away!
- Race: Wait, you should let me snuggle you right now. Emma: Ew! Get away!

The Post in Which I Ask and Answer My Own Question
The other day I couldn't focus on anything but my flaws.
I felt like my flaws were way bigger than everyone else's.
{Not that I really know other people's flaws}
Anyway, I read a lot of blogs and I kept asking myself:
How do all these big bloggers make their flaws seems so small and silly?
These bloggers often have flaws similar to mine but when I do the same things they do I don't see it as funny or small...it's always HUGE and the end of the world kind of thing.
After thinking about this and writing down all of my thoughts on it I realized a couple of things:
1. People often blog to try and focus on the good, funny things in life, so they learn to find good and funniness in their flaws.
And 2. When we see flaws in ourselves we just make them WAY bigger than the flaws we see in everyone else.
I know that comparing isn't good for anyone and that my flaws really aren't HUGE things. They are things that I can learn to laugh at. And I can do that through blogging about the things that make me happy and the silly flaws that I have just like everyone else.
P.S. Race is tickling my back right now and singing "She's too sexy for her hair, too sexy for her lips, too sexy for her....etc." I love my husband! He also just asked me if I was blogging about how sexy my hair is. Haha. Let me add a picture of my hair on here so you can all see how unsexy it is right now...

Silly Husband
Race and I do not go grocery shopping as often as we should. We haven't since we got married. This often means that our grocery lists are about a mile long by the time we finally find a spare minute to get to the store. In the first month of our marriage Race ended up having to do some of the shopping on his own when we ran out of the necessities. This was our texting conversation one day:

Silly husband :) It was quite funny to see the things from our list that my husband dubbed as necessities. He was so proud of himself though that I just had to be proud too. He is quite the bargain shopper! {Also, the frosting was delicious! Chocolate frosting straight from the tub is one of my very favorite treats. :)}

Race's Face
First off I'd like to say welcome to the new blog! :) Race and I are excited to share our future with all of you! Now on to more interesting things. Race posted a little bit about his surgery earlier this week. I just wanted to put some pictures up so you could are how he's doing. :) I hope it's not too embarrassing for him!
Here is his face the day of the surgery:

Here is day two:

Here is day three (doesn't his hair look nice?):

And finally day four:

My poor lover. Haha. He's getting better slowly but surely! And I promise I'm taking VERY good care of him. :)

Date Nights
So one of my roommates did a blog about dates that her and her, now husband, have done in
Flagstaff since everyone complains about there being nothing to do here.
So I decided to do a quick post on a super fun date that Race and I have done in Flagstaff. :]
The day after we were engaged Race and I went on a date out in the woods.
We built a fire and roasted marshmallows and made s'mores.
Then we set up a hammock and cuddled and watched a movie.
It was really fun and didn't take much planning at all.
All you have to do is either buy or borrow a hammock.
Gather up the stuff to make a fire and to make s'mores.
Find a nice place in the woods where you are allowed to build a fire.
And bring a movie and a laptop with good batter life.
This can also be done with lots of friends and blankets/sleeping bags on the ground if you want it to be a bigger group activity.
But it's super fun so stop complaining about Flag being boring and go enjoy a movie in the woods!

A 7-Year Olds Instructions on "How To Get a Boy to Like You" (Gelsey's)
So these are instructions my seven year old sister told Helena, my sixteen year old sister on how to get a boy to like you. They are pretty amusing and pretty on the dot for some. Helena originally wrote these down as Gelsey told them to her so that is who I am borrowing them from. Thanks Helena and Gelsey!!
**These are her exact words
Lesson 1-How To Dress Pretty
-Dress pretty and cute. Wear skirts with t-shirts that match your skirts. Wear high heels. And do your make-up pretty and cute. Do your hair the way cute girls do it, like down, curly. And I almost forgot, wear perfume.
Lesson 2- If You Like the Boy
-If the boy has talked to you at least three times, but then he stopped talking to you for a long time, try to hang out with him, like at lunch. Ask if you can sit with him (in case he has friends that might laugh at him).
Lesson 3-If You Don't Have A Phone
-If you don't want a phone, and you can't talk to him when you're at your house unless he is at your house, get a phone anyways. Tell all of your friends that will text you “Please do not text me. Please do not delete this message.”
-Then try to get his number.
-Oh, and get an iPhone. Then all the boys might think you're cool, because you'll have internet, and YouTube, and Facebook.
Lesson 4-How To Get a Boy To Go To Prom With You
-Wear a cute dress that boys might like and they might think you are wearing it to Prom, and then might ask you out to Prom.
-Then you might go to Prom with them.
Lesson 5-How To Get A First Date
-The boy asks you out. But then... he doesn't have a car. How do you get him to get you there? Then you buy a car so you can drive him there. On the way home he can drive you home. And then you can drive him back home.
The End. ( This is to make it a story, in case a teacher ever asks you to write a story about how to get a boy to like you. I don't know why any teacher would want you to do that for homework.)
My Comments on all of that:
Lesson 1: Pretty dang on the spot :) And good thing she remembered the perfume.
Lesson 3: I feel pretty good about this one seeing as I have an iPhone. (This is even being posted from my iPhone!) All the boys should like me now. ;)
Lessons 4&5: Hahahaha. That's about all I can say.
I love my sister and little kids. They give some of the best advice! I think I'll be turning to my sister for advice more often now.
Here is the gorgeous author of this good advice. :)
And here is the beautiful author with me. We got our hair cut the same. Cute, huh?
Grandpa Hogan
This is a picture of Helena, Grandpa Hogan and I over winter break this year. He's got a sweet headband, huh?
Here's my Grandpa a couple years ago wearing the same headband. This time we didn't tell him to put it on though. I just came down in the morning to find him wearing it and I snuck this picture in by using my phone. I was sneaky!
I love my Grandparents! :] Thank you for making me laugh and sharing your life wisdom with me.

Random Facts About Me :]
I did this for some thing on Facebook and I not everyone has facebook so I thought I'd put it on here too. Just some random facts about myself. Enjoy! :]
1. I love making sound FX. (Examples: GAHHH! Psh! Bleh! GRRR! Argg!)
2. I try to write in my journal every day and I love going back and reading my old journals although they are sometimes ridiculously embarrassing.
3. I love buying school supplies, especially notebooks...I don't really know why though 'cause I'm not a huge fan of school or anything.
4. I love making lists (packing lists, grocery shopping lists, things to do, goals, etc.)
5. I talk to both of my parents about pretty much everything and I love them sooo much! It's hard to be away and not get to talk to them everyday. Lucky for me technology is amazing and I get to call/email/web chat with them quite often. I think my parents are two of the wisest people I know.
6. I write everything in my agenda but rarely ever look at it when I'm doing homework and stuff. I guess just writing it down helps me remember.
7. My name is Emma Olmstead and I am addicted to Spider Solitaire. (It is distracting me as I write this)
8. I love YouTube and could watch it for a really long time but I never find cool videos myself...other people have to tell me about them.
9. I can touch my tongue to my elbow and to my nose. (No, touching your tongue to your elbow is NOT impossible)
10. My all time favorite color is red. I have four pairs of red shoes, a pair of red rain boots, a pair of red slippers, at least four red sweatshirts, two red bags and I don't even know how many red shirts.
11. I am 5 foot and almost ½ of an inch tall. My 15 year old sister is taller than me and so is my almost 13 year old brother. And my 7 year old sister is about the same size I was in 5th grade! Once everyone in my family is grown up I am pretty sure I will be the shortest. And no one knows how I got to be so short because none of my relatives are nearly as short as me...as far as I know.
12. I love getting dressed up and doing my hair all fancy (when it's long enough) but I have never really learned how to put on makeup all fancy. But I'm not a big fan of makeup so it's all good.
13. I have eight brothers and two sisters and I love all of them more than I could ever explain. I am the fourth child but first girl so I am a middle child as well as an oldest in some ways.
14. Losing someone I love is one of my biggest fears although I do know that I will be with them again.
15. I love reading but I have a hard time finding good books so I rely on other people (mostly my mom and sister) to suggest good books to me.
16. Shopping is one of my favorite things to do...when I find things for super good deals.
17. I love getting compliments on my clothes and being able to tell people how cheap I got the shirt/shoes/pants/whatever for. I think I like being able to say that more than the fact that someone complimented me. I hate when I didn't get something for a good deal because then I don't know what to say. And I almost always know the exact amount something cost me (not including tax).
18. I wish I had stayed in gymnastics after sixth grade but I am also grateful that I was able to try lots of different things over the years (diving, dance, choir, piano, sewing, cooking, pole vaulting, running, public speaking, swimming, etc.).
19. Doing backflips on trampolines is one of my favorite things to do so when my parents bought a trampoline the week after I moved away from home I was bit upset.
20. My little sister, Helena, is my best friend in the entire world. I don't know what I would do without her and I am so lucky to get along with her so well. It's hard being away and not knowing about everything that is going on in her life and being able to tell her all about what is going on in mine.
21. My sister and I shared all of our clothes when we were living together. Before I moved out we had to do a week test-run to see if we would be able to survive with only half of our wardrobe. Luckily we did!
22. I crashed a motorcycle when I was 12 or 13 and now have a fear of riding them. So I have a goal to get over that fear.
23. More than anything else I want to be a mom when I grow up.
24. I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and I love it.
25. I love to dance but I'm not all that great at it. My sister and I dance to pretty much everything and now I dance with my roommates (especially to the Evolution of Dance on You Tube). Interpretive dances to EFY music are the best. I would love to learn to ballroom dance but I like other kinds of dancing as well (jazz, ballet, hip hop, etc.).

Blast to the Past!
It all began with a pair of FOOTIE PAJAMAS!
The first pair belonged to my beautiful roommate Aubree Stradling.
This pair of footies became an inspiration in Apt. #96
(That's where I live by the way...I haven't updated in forever so no one knows that).
Because of this pair of footies my best friend Jasmine Storm Kvavle and I bought footies later followed by Aubree buying a new pair and gifting hers to Katie.
And FINALLY Rachel and Kylie bought their footies after some ultimate convincing
and secret telling. We are all officially converted to the comfort and warmth
of FOOTIES (AKA BLANKET SLEEPERS OR ONESIES)!
This is me, Katie, Aubree, and Jasmine in our FOOOOTIES! We don't have a picture
of all six of us just yet but we will soon enough!
So once you own a pair of footies you have every right to act like a five year old...
Only when you are wearing them of course. ;)
One of the things that I did when I was little was building forts with my brothers.
So, a few weekends ago when Knowlton and Helena came up to Flagstaff with Jasmine and I we decided to build a fort in my apartment.
This was after playing very many rounds of hide-and-go-seek in the dark!
This game is basically a way to scare your friends over and over again.
Jasmine is super fun to scare so Helena and I thoroughly enjoyed scaring her and hearing her scare herself as she searched for us with Knowlton.
And Knowlton did a good job scaring her. The best thing about this was when we turned the lights on she would be curled up into a ball on the floor.
If only I had a picture of that. But! I do have pictures of our beautiful fort! After making it we watched a movie in it. Gooood times!
Here are Jasmine and Knowlton (and Helena sleeping) after a lot of hard fort building work!

Here's Knowlton, Jazz, and I inside our fort and ready to watch a movie!!
Another thing that Knowlton, Helena, Jasmine and I did was put up and decorate a Christmas tree in our apartment. Jasmine and I saw a Christmas tree on sale for $25 dollars on Black Friday and we could not pass up the wonderful deal. And we wanted our apartment to feel a little more like home. So we bought a 6 foot tall Christmas Tree with lights included!! It looks amazing and we bought some ornaments to decorate it with. We each picked one ornament out and then made a show of putting them up while listening to Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree!

FINALS week was amazing! How often can you say that?!
Well, I can say that this week. It wasn't ALL good but well it was pretty amazing because...
We had one and a half SNOW DAYS! :]
The snow days came in perfect timing for me because they cancelled ALL of my finals.
I had a Monday final at 12:30 and they closed the school at NOON!
Then they closed the school for all of my Tuesday finals!
HOLY HECK how amazing is that?!
So here's some pictures of the snow and some of the fun that we had in it!
This is what I woke up to around 9:00 am on Monday morning. And it then continued to snow all day long.

This is what we woke up to on Tuesday morning. Beautiful white sparkling snow. :]
Rachel, Katie, and I went for a drive in the crrrazy blizzard with our friend Troy and then we jumped into huge piles of snow on the side of the road. This is me jumping into a HUGE pile of snow. I disappeared into it after. It was wonderful! Cold but wonderful :]
Here are Katie and I with Troy :]
Here are Katie and I in the fort that we built with our neighbors and Aubree. Pretty freaking sweet, huh?
The institute had a Christmas dinner and talent show on Tuesday night and my roommates and I decided to put a little skit together.
It is based off of an SNL skit. (Hopefully those links work...)
If not check out my facebook for our video at least.
Oh, did I forget to mention that we performed in our footies?! 'Cause we definitely did!

There is so much more that I would like to blog about so hopefully it will help me blog more often so I do not have to play catch up every time that I get on here. But anyway, I would like to end with some things that I am very grateful for as I near the end of this year:
It brings joy to all aspects of my life and has helped me through good times and bad times.
I am especially grateful for the birth, atonement, death, and resurrection of
Jesus Christ. As the holiday season is here
I am reminded of this even more.
I hope that we can all take time to remember our
Savior this season and throughout the coming year and strive to become more like Him. The First Presidency of the church shared wonderful messages of our
Savior in the Christmas Devotional this season that everyone should take the time to listen to.
I am so grateful for the lessons that
I have learned this year and the many ways that my testimony has been strengthened.
P.S. Jasmine wanted me to share with the world that she bought a new pair of footie pajamas tonight. And here's a picture of her foot in them and me. :]
By the way, Jazz's favorite color is green and her new footies are green with MONKEYS on them in case you can't tell. If only she had bought me an extra pair of footies as well...haha.
