Reflections

I have seen this list of questions to answer about yourself floating around the blogging world. I stole this from Autumn over at Stay gold, Autumn. {I found out the questions are originally from here: Hopes and Dreams} I am in no rush to answer all of these questions and I may never finish but I do think that they are really good self-reflection questions {and as Jess from Hopes and Dreams says these are good questions to ask on a date or something. Race and I have been g-mail chatting with each other during work and answering these questions. We're having fun learning more and more about each other!}. You should join me and leave a link with some of the answers to your questions! I'd love to learn more about you!

I have already been writing the answers down on paper when I get bored in my classes and at work so I finally decided to put some of my answers up on the blog! I hope you enjoy learning a little bit more about me as I learn a little bit more about myself!

Eleven Things: Were You Tagged?!

I'm finally doing my eleven things post that I have been repeatedly tagged in and repeatedly too lazy to do. I'm excited though! So first off I want to thank ALL of the lovely ladies who tagged me! {If I forgot anyone PLEASE let me know and I will add you!}

Cassie of Ben & Cassie
Not technically the eleven things post but I was also tagged by:
Sandy of Twelve Makes a Dozen

Eleven Things:
  1. I really enjoy writing things down on paper. I have to have a cool pen to write with though otherwise it's not quite so fun. When I get bored in my classes I write journal entries or more recently I have been working on answering random questions about myself as a little bit of self-reflection.
  2. I am not very good at making girl friends. My sisters/sisters-in-law/mom are my best friends. This might be a bad thing when I don't live close enough to visit all of them often.
  3. I do not like to cry in front of anyone other than Race. Occasionally I'll cry in front of other family members but not very often.
  4. I am a really slow unpacker. It takes me months to get settled into a new place. I was doing really good this time around until I realized that we might be moving again this summer. I don't want to finish unpacking if we'll be packing it all up in a couple of weeks!
  5. I really like typing. I play typing games for fun and do typing tests {to see how fast I type} for fun and I honestly love it when I get compliments on my fast typing. Haha. I'm probably not even that fast of a typist but all the maintenance guys at my work are impressed by it so I feel really cool!
  6. I love taking pictures of my baby bump. And I love posting them everywhere{blog, Facebook, Instagram}. I hope it doesn't bother all my social network friends.
  7. I sit at home with my shirt pulled up and stare at my belly for hours at a time. I'm lazy and my baby is a cool kicker. {I take videos sometimes too but I don't know if people would be offended by my bare belly}.
  8. I call my mom pretty much every day. Sometimes multiple times a day. Is this normal?? I don't much care if it isn't because I like talking to my mom but I still wonder.
  9. Sometimes I wish that I hadn't gone to college but had gone to beauty school instead. I still wouldn't mind going to beauty school someday.
  10. I am graduating in less than a month. I didn't walk at my high school graduation so I'm really hoping I don't fall on my face or do something really dumb when I walk at my college graduation. Any walking tips? Haha.
  11. I lose my keys/phone/wallet all the time. It drives Race crazy. It's gotten worse since I got pregnant. Haha.
Well there are my eleven things FINALLY! Thanks again to everyone who tagged me! Now it's your turn to answer away! I'm going to be a bad blogger and not specifically tag anyone but I want anyone and everyone to do this and send me a link! Even if you did it a while ago you should send me a link so that I can read it! :] Have a happy weekend everyone!

And before I go--here's a baby bump picture!

Randomness.

Melissa of My Soul is the Sky tagged me in this fun quiz/questionnaire thing! Learn a little bit more about me, then go check out Melissa's post! And I'll tag a few people to keep this going!

#1. What's a nickname only your family calls you?
Ems? I don't really have many nicknames...some that only Race calls me are EmFish, EmSquishy, and lots of other weird things like that. Haha.

#2. What's a weird habit of yours?
Whenever I wake up and Race is not next to me I call him. No matter where he is and despite the fact that I'm never fully awake. The conversations always last about thirty seconds and I say weird things. Maybe I'll have Race post about some of these conversations sometime. Haha.

#3. Do you have any weird phobias?
Driving in our crazy busy small town. And driving in weird weather conditions.

#4. What's a song you secretly LOVE to blast & belt out when you're alone?
Enrique Iglesias Heroe {Spanish version!}

#5. What's one of your biggest pet peeves?
When people browse movies on Netflix or Redbox for FOREVER but never settle on anything to watch! I'm all about picking something fast, seeing if it's any good, and then changing my mind if it's not. I don't understand browsing. Haha.

#6. What's one of your nervous habits?
 I play with my ears when I'm nervous. {And random other times as well. I always say this phrase to Race "My ears are the perfect temperature right now!" And he says it makes no sense but to me it really does.}

#7. What side of the bed do you sleep on?
If I'm standing at the end of the bed it would be the right side. Does that make sense? {For some reason whenever we're out of town Race and I switch which side of the bed we normally sleep on.}

#8. What was your first stuffed animal & it's name?
I don't remember stuffed animals but my mom made me a doll for my first Christmas and I have had that for forever. I actually never named her though..Hmm...

#9. What's the drink you ALWAYS order at starbucks?
Strawberries & Creme frapuccino! Mmmm!

#10. What's the beauty rule you preach.. but never ACTUALLY practice?
I don't think I preach any beauty rules...You should all preach some to me though!!

#11. Which way do you face in the shower?
I face away from the shower head most of the time.

#12. Do you have any 'weird' body 'skills'?
I can lick my elbow. Booyah!

#13. What's your favorite 'comfort food'/food thats 'bad' but you love to eat it anyways?
Rice Krispie treats! Or Cool Ranch Doritos!

#14. What's a phrase or exclamation you always say?
"Bum squeezes!" {Race and I have this rule where if one of us says that the other must oblige. Haha. Awkward...maybe? But we like it!}

#15. Time to sleep- what are you ACTUALLY wearing?
Plaid red PJ pants and a t-shirt.

Now I want to tag these fun ladies!

Phone Photos Episode Three

Photos from the new iPhone 4! {Did I even tell you guys I got a new phone?! Well, I did and I'm loving it! I got it about two weeks ago but the earpiece didn't work and I was having to use speaker phone or my headphones to talk on the phone which was super annoying so I exchanged it and yesterday I got a phone that actually works!! Wow, long ramble. Now onto the pictures!}

Baby Madison makes the best faces! {And I just learned about this app PicFrame that I love!!}

Baby Ella with Race and I. Race and I have Ella, her two sisters, her brother, and her parents for Christmas this year and I am having so much fun gathering gift ideas on Pinterest!!

I give Race head massages when he haves headaches. It's amusing for me and probably more annoying than helpful for him. Especially since I was making him take his own picture. :) Teehee!

Race and I went to YogurtU, the only self-serve yogurt place in Flagstaff. it was delicious, fun, and such a cute little place. Next time I'll take pictures of the inside. I didn't this time because it got all busy right when we got there.

These are just awkward pictures of me. Haha. The first one is right after I woke up the other day and the second one is just me being weird and bored.

This is a sneak peak of an outfit I wore a week or so ago. Cute, eh? Haha. Just kidding. I doubt you can see it!

Here are some awkward Photobooth photos. Race and I are weird. {Photobooth is the first app I bought once I got the iPhone 4 with the forward facing camera}

How cute is this bow under your bun hairstyle?! I saw it on Pinterest, tried it, and loved it! Now I want to buy more bows!

I'm a creeper. This little girl was at the bus stop with her mom and she was so cute I had to sneak a picture! I don't know if you can tell how TINY she is but she was itty bitty but walking and talking and it was adorable!

Finally, one more picture of me and a baby! :) This is baby Ella again. My sister-in-law Amber took this picture and I love it! I'm in love with sweet babies! And it's my favorite when they fall asleep on my chest/shoulder like this!

Okay, more Phone Photos another time! Have a wonderful day everyone!!

Random BlogWorld Stuffs

I am fairly new to the world of blogging. I started my blog a while ago but I decided to really post on my blog every day, read other people's blogs, and comment on other people's blogs about a month and a half ago. It has been so much fun getting to know people and finding so many fun blogs! It's so fun to read people's blogs and relate to them through things that we have both been through as well as things that we are going through right now. It's fun to get ideas from people's blogs and it is so much fun to look forward to having kids, being done with school, and so much more through reading people's blogs who are at this point in their lives.

Recently in blogland I have had some super sweet people give me awards and it is so exciting to know that people read, and like my blog! So today you all get to hear seven more random facts about myself because I got another Versatile blogger award {see first one here} from the sweet Jessica of her blog Live Laugh Love {Thank you Jessica! And everyone else, please go check her wonderful blog out! I love reading her random thoughts and she is a very talented writer. :]}. I was also given the "I Dig Your Blog" award. That one was from the wonderful Gentri Lee. I have been reading Gentri's blog for quite a while and I always love her sweet comments and her sweet responses to my comments on her blog. She is lots of fun, super stylish, and is throwing a Utah blogger meet-up with some other Utah bloggers that any of you in Utah should check out. {I wanted to go so badly and even looked into flying out there but school is just not that nice to me!} Finally, I was tagged in a fun blog game by Ashley from her blog Sloanbook! I love Ashley's blog all about life with her husband and her adorable dog Katinka {You should check out her most recent post and see where they got that name from! I love the story!}

So, first, thank you to all the wonderful ladies that sent me these fun things!

Now, here are seven {more} random facts about me:
  1. I am in the process of starting another blog with a couple of my sisters-in-law. My sister-in-law Jackie had this great idea to do a blog with some of the gals from the family where we post about affordable style, crafty things, sewy things and the like. We are in the process of making the blog cute {thank you to my skilled sister-in-law Nikki} and getting some posts up for everyone to read! I can't wait to tell you all about it in a few days!
  2. I just started an on-campus job that I love! I work in an office answering phone and dispatching messaged to General Maintenance Managers across campus. Sounds cool, eh? Haha.
  3. I used to meditate every day. And no, not the mmmmm...mmmmm...hands in the air, legs crossed kind of meditate. I would simply find time every day to sit, relax, and not think or stress about anything. I would just be for a few minutes. I think that I am going to start this again because it made my days so much more manageable.
  4. I dream of having a piano in my home someday. I am not by an means a good pianist but I love to play the hymns and primary songs. It's calming and I really want my children to grow up around music.
  5. I love babies and can't wait to have my own someday. Want to know a guilty pleasure my mom and I have? {Yes! I knew you would!} My mom and I both love to buy baby clothes for my future children. I already have a drawer full of adorable clothes for my future adorable babies!
  6. I want to learn to sew so that my kids can have the coolest Halloween costumes ever!
  7. I am already planning Christmas presents thanks to this post by Yours Truly, Madison! I am SO SO excited for Christmas! :]

Now on to people I nominate for awards {these are the people I am also tagging for the little blog game!}

Nominations for The Versatile Blogger Award:
Autumn of Stay Gold, Autumn

Courtney of Eric & Courtney
Katie of Sparky
Mary of Mary Plus Vince

Disqus

I have had Disqus for a few weeks now and this is what I have decided:

Likes:
  • I really do like that you can respond to comments right on the blog.
Dislikes:
  • I am pretty sure that anyone not registered with Disqus does not get my responses {you can correct me if I'm wrong}.
  • It doesn't work well with iPhones {which is what I have so it's kind of important that it works well with them}
  • I do not like that I can not find other people's blogs through their comments unless they leave a link. This is especially obnoxious when I get a comment from a new reader or someone who just stopped by and is not a follower. I always want to go check out all of your great blogs and was sad that sometimes I couldn't because of Disqus.
Well, that's all I can really think about that actually matters to me. But, I am getting rid of Disqus for my blog {This might take me a couple of days because I need to figure out how to import Disqus comments to blogger and do some other maintenancy type things}. I plan on keeping the account to use when commenting other people's blogs because I love having one place to look at all the comments I have made and see the responses from the blog authors.

I do love getting email responses from the normal blogger commenting and that is how I will be responding to all of your comments from now on! So check your profile to make sure that your email is not set to private so that you actually get my responses to all of your sweet comments!

Thanks for testing Disqus out with me and telling me all of your opinions on it! I definitely do not think there is anything super bad about it and I may very well switch right back once they get the app for the iPhone figured out! Have a wonderful day!! And let me leave you with a fun picture! :] Have a wonderful day everyone!

Super Random

I have been thinking of changing my blog comment thing to DISQUS because I like that it tells you when you get a reply. What do you all think? And do any of you use DISQUS already? I need some serious input here...this is a BIG deal! {I hope you got the sarcasm there but seriously, input would be nice.} And if you're anti DISQUS please let me know how you all like to get replies to your comments. I used to reply on my own blog but then I wasn't sure if anyone checked back to see my reply so I started heading to people's blogs to reply. Sometimes I just comment on people's posts but forget to reply to the comments from my posts...does that make any sense? Anyway, basically I'm asking for wisdom from all you bloggers who know more than me! And all of you bloggers who just have an opinion/thought about this. Thanks! :]

Life is Kicking My Little {er...Big} Bum.

Mostly school is just kicking me in the butt. But other things are too {like trying to find a job while kinda half working, and searching for books for cheap was a LOT of work}. Anyway, I really don't think it will be that bad eventually but this first week I feel like I have been running nonstop. {It didn't help that I had cramps ALL week from that obnoxious thing that has to come visit every month. Sidenote: How are you supposed to talk about periods in blogland without it sounding nasty like it is?} Anyway, I should be sleeping, reading books, studying, cleaning, packing, etc. right now but I just finished washing {with the help of Race} and folding {without the help of Race} a billion and one loads of laundry. My back is sore and I am exhausted so I am going to sit, relax, and blog instead of doing more important things.

I have some exciting news to share! First, Saturday is Race and my ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY! :] It has been the most wonderful year being married to the most wonderful person and I love that we still have eternity to go. I plan on doing a legit anniversary post when we get back. I'll do one about being married and how awesome it is and then one about our awesome mini vacation that we are doing this weekend.

The second thing that I have to share is that I will be having three awesome guest posters! This is my first time ever having other people post on my blog...other than the couple of times that Race wrote on here forever ago. Anyway, I am excited to announce that Kaycie of {Redhead} Memories will be visiting on Saturday, Autumn of Stay gold, Autumn will be visiting on Sunday, and Katie of Sparky will be visiting on Monday! I can't wait to share all of the sweet things that they wrote about love, marriage, weddings, engagements, and all things good. :] I will be back on Tuesday and ready to share all of my adventures with you! But, please give my guest posters some love and go visit their blogs because they are all awesome!

Well, I hope to get in one more post before I head off in the next 24 hours but if not come back during the weekend to learn all about some cool ladies while I enjoy Lake Powell and spending some quality {much needed} time alone with my hubby. No TVs, no phones, no computers. It will be pure bliss!

I will get to be with him for hours instead of seeing him while he's on his way to class while I'm headed home as seen in this progression of pictures:

He's cute. :] And he started walking funny right when he realized I was taking pictures. But yeah, I am really excited for this weekend!

Institute is Wonderful

I mentioned in my First Day of School post that I signed up for an institute class. {Did I also mention that I'm technically done with institute? I don't remember but I am graduated from institute and will be getting a diploma whenever I want it!} I am so glad that I did. I went to my first class today and it was wonderful. The class is called "Teachings of the Living Prophets" and I love it already. Today we just got to know each other and then we read some quotes about the importance of modern revelation. It was just what I needed and I feel like it is really going to help motivate me to grow closer to the Spirit and to learn how to see the hand of God in my everyday life. Also, the prophet has asked that we pass around a scripture reading chart during each class and keep track of how many days we have taken the time to do individual scripture study. I think that this will really help me to make an extra effort to read SOMETHING from my scriptures every day. I am so grateful for institute and the opportunity I have to learn more about the gospel, strengthen my testimony, and grow closer to the Spirit so that I can use it to better my life and marriage and to help the people around me. I love spiritual highs! And I plan on keeping this one up throughout the semester. :]

Also we got cute little yellow legal pads to write on so I'm pretty excited about that. {Remember, I love school supplies}

Oh, and I am the designated musician aka pianist even though I barely play. I am glad for the practice though.

In Oregon

You sit in your car and they pump your gas for you. It's very different. And a little weird. You can't even pump your gas yourself if you want to--it's illegal!

Because of that, this happened a few years back:

My grandparents were visiting us in Arizona and my mom, my grandma, my sisters and I were heading out to go shopping but we had to stop and get gas first. We got to the gas station where my mom and grandma realized that neither of them knew how to pump gas. They had literally never done it before! My sisters and I were too young so we didn't know how either so my mom had to go inside and ask the gas station attendant for help. I'm sure that made for an amusing story for the attendant. A 40 year-old and a 60 year-old who didn't know how to pump gas. It's crazy to think that you could go such a long time without pumping gas. I am glad that I learned but I also don't mind sitting in my car in Oregon while they pump my gas, wash my windows, and just be overall nice to me. It's a fun change!

Multivitamins

Does anyone else get sick from taking multivitamins? My husband thinks it's just me because I react weird to other kinds of drugs too but I am sure other people have weird reactions to things also, right? Today I threw up about five minutes after taking my multivitamin. And now I'm hungry {but kinda scared to eat again} since all my lunch ran away from the lame vitamin! It makes me scared to ever take them again...any advice and/or thoughts?

{I Was} Sitting at the MVD

I tried to post this while I was there but it didn't work. Now I'm back home with a new license in hand and I am OFFICIALLY Emma Frances Ashby for all the world to know. Also, does anyone know why driver's license pictures always turn out so weird?

I'm A048 although that doesn't tell me anything since the order makes absolutely no sense. Does anyone know how this works?

This is what came up after the last photo:

Yeah, I'm confused. And bored.

Random Things I Learned While at the MVD:
  1. You should always have ten inches between yourself and the steering wheel {This is common sense but I honestly don't know if I ever have that much room because my legs are just so dang short}.
  2. Plan ahead before traveling {Seriously?! Isn't this pretty much a given?}.
  3. Use gasbuddy.com to compare gas prices wherever you are.
  4. Being a small business owner would be stressful {more than 40 hours a week and most small business owners work over the holidays--bleh!}
It was also pointed out to me that I was moved from the middle/end of the alphabet list to the front. Olmstead --> Ashby I am lucky!

Race Says Funny Things

More specifically Race says funny things before he is about to pass gas aka cut the cheese, break wind, rip one, toot, fart, or whatever else you might call it. I still haven't figured out why Race feels the need to tell me before he does this but for some reason he does and is constantly coming up with new goofy ways to let me know what's about to happen. {Sometimes it is a nice warning for me to move away but usually what he says is very misleading}

Here are some of the silly things he says {and my typical responses}:
  • Race: Emma, I have a surprise for you! Emma: Ew! Get away!
  • Race: No matter what happens in the next ten seconds just remember that I love you! Emma: Ew! Get away!
  • Race: I'm so sorry! Emma: Ew! Get away!
  • Race: I have something important to say... Emma: Ew! Get away!
  • Race: I should be the big spoon right now... Emma: Ew! Get away!
  • Race: Wait, you should let me snuggle you right now. Emma: Ew! Get away!
As you can see my responses are always the same although occasionally the vary a LITTLE bit. The funny thing is that of course Race sometimes says things like "I have something important to tell you" or "I have a surprise for you" when he actually does need to tell me something or have a surprise for me. Then my response doesn't make any sense. I am now used to all of Race's pre-passing-the-gas phrases and get as far away as I need to to avoid stinky boyness. :] I just like that my husband avoids covered wagons and "pull my finger" jokes and comes up with his own silly ways to let me know he's about to cut the cheese. Haha.

Hopefully this wasn't too gross or awkward for anyone. Race and I were just laughing the other day at how many different things he has come up with and how I recognize them right off the bat and give him the same response every time. It's fun having a husband to laugh at these things with.

Race and I just filled this out for fun after seeing it on Kylie Pond's blog. It was fun guessing some of each others' answers and also learning new things about each other. :] Pass it on!

Race's Face Day 5

Here's day five of Race's face. It's not nearly as swollen but there is a nasty yellow bruise if you can see it.

Race's Face

First off I'd like to say welcome to the new blog! :) Race and I are excited to share our future with all of you! Now on to more interesting things. Race posted a little bit about his surgery earlier this week. I just wanted to put some pictures up so you could are how he's doing. :) I hope it's not too embarrassing for him!

Here is his face the day of the surgery:

Here is day two:

Here is day three (doesn't his hair look nice?):

And finally day four:

My poor lover. Haha. He's getting better slowly but surely! And I promise I'm taking VERY good care of him. :)

Race's First Post!

Well since this is for both Emma AND I, I might as well do my first ever post. This week I had a tooth pulled and a bone graft. During the surgery, Emma sat in a corner of the room playing solitaire on her phone and watching. As soon as it was over, Emma started taking care of me. Let me just explain that I have the world's best fiancee ever. She has been taking such amazingly good care of me all week. It's funny, because she likes throwing in things like "you'll have to take as good care of me when I'm pregnant." Of course I will, Emma! Anyways, we're hoping that I'll be less puffy by the time we decide to take engagement photos in a few weeks!

Yes, snow in the middle/end of April. Craziness! But it is gorgeos isn't it?
