I had a lot of fun with this challenge and really figured out some cool new ways to layer Holland's clothes that I don't think I would have come up with before this! I just have so much fun getting Holland dressed every day and it was extra fun to show off all her outfits this last week!

Happy Monday everyone!

P.S. I got a haircut that I will be debuting {if you haven't already seen it on Instagram or Facebook} and Holland started scoot crawling today so hopefully I'll have a cute video of that to show you all soon! {Just today someone asked me if she was crawling yet and I said no only to be surprised when she decided that she can crawl now! Crazy girl! Now I'd better go get some baby proofing done!}

Dressing Little Miss Holland

This week Holland and I are participating in an Instagram challenge with blogger Lauren Hartmann over at The Little Things We Do. The challenge is to pick three items from your child's closet and remix at least one of the three items in new, fun ways for seven days. I already had a ton of fun this morning deciding what three items I am going to be using for the challenge. And there are already a bunch of other people joining in using the hashtag #7daysofstyle. It's fun to see what everyone is coming up with!

This whole thing got me thinking about how much I love dressing Holland up every day. When I found out I was having a girl I was so excited for all the cute things I would get to dress her in. I love baby clothes but I also love when people dress babies up in things that look like grown up clothes. Or accessorize babies like they would themselves. Lauren does that with her sweet girl Fern and she is where I have gotten a lot of inspiration for Holland's outfits. The funny thing is that there are some baby outfits that I wasn't having Holland wear as much because they were just "normal" baby outfits but when I have finally put them on her they have been some of my absolute favorites. So I learned that while it's really fun to put babies in super stylish outfits it is also fun to just have them dress just like a baby since that is what they are!

Here are some of my favorite outfits of Holland's:
{5 months}

 {About 1 month}

 {A couple of weeks old}

 {5 months}

 {5 months}

 {5 months}

 {6 months}

And of course I think she's adorable even when she's not wearing clothes!
{6 months}

I might have to do another post about her outfits with Instagram pictures since I have a LOT more outfits on there than on my camera! Dressing this sweet girl is just too much fun! Oh, and I will be back here when the challenge is finished to show you what we came up with! If you can't wait a week to see the outfits you can always follow along on Instagram! @emmaashby

A Quick Hello

I just wrote hellow. Not sure what I was thinking there! Anyway, I just wanted to jump on here and let you all know that I am taking down my swap sponsors. I haven't been blogging much lately and just wanted to simplify things around here. Thank you for your understanding! And now I will leave you with the most adorable video of my little miss Holland!

The Day I Ate Bugs "For" Race

Just a picture of this cute little one.
It's totally unrelated to the rest of this post but like I said, she's cute and little so it works.

I watched the most recent episode of The Bachelor today and Race half watched it with me while he played some video games. There was a part where Lindsay and Sean were in Thailand and Sean somehow convinced Lindsay to eat some bugs {gross}. I turned to Race and apologetically let him know that I would not be eating bugs for him anytime soon {read: ever}.

Fast forward a few hours to tonight. Race made some delicious sugar cookies and I was in charge of making the frosting. {Race is the sweets baker around here but he always has me make the frosting because let's be honest, that's one of the few things I'm good at doing in the kitchen}. Anyway, I made a simple frosting {some butter, milk, and powdered sugar} and very nicely frosted a cookie for Race and brought it over to him {after eating a cookie myself first--of course}. After his first bite I did think to warn him that I "burnt the butter" so there were some burnt black bits in the frosting. He looked at them and told me that butter doesn't burn. I explained to him that it must have because what else would those little black bits be?

We each decided to ignore the little bits and ate a couple more cookies. On Race's fourth cookie or so he decided to investigate the black bits a little further and was convinced they were bugs.

I still wasn't sure but I threw away the remaining frosting anyway. But I just had to investigate further. What were the little black things?! I dumped out the rest of the bag of powdered sugar and sifted through it but couldn't find anything. I then melted some more butter just to see if I could burn it. Apparently you really can't burn butter--or if you can it takes quite a while {I stopped trying after a few minutes because I knew I hadn't had it in the microwave for that long}. So I dumped the butter into the powdered sugar. Then I had to check the milk because, heck! what else could it be? So I poured a glass of milk while looking for the bugs and then dumped it in with the butter and powdered sugar. Still nothing. So I mixed it up and then the bugs started to appear again! And I got a close up look at them and they really did look like itty bitty ants!

I'm guessing they were in the powdered sugar the whole time but only appear when you mix in liquid or something? Anyway, it was a pretty gross experience and Race and I both kind of feel like throwing up now. But hey, I guess Race and I will eat bugs for each other so that's got to say something about our relationship! Also, in just a few hours Holland will probably be getting some bug protein as well. We really are a loving, trusting family. The family that eats bugs together, stays together. That's how the saying goes, right?

Six Months.

Dear Holland,

This month has been so much fun! You interact with us so much more and you are sitting up on your own! You started sitting up on your five month birthday and haven't ever had much of a problem falling over or anything! Since you've got the whole sitting thing down you are now reaching further and further for everything around you. We wouldn't be surprised if you started crawling soon but we are going to enjoy this time when you aren't mobile because we have definitely not finished unpacking and baby proofing our new apartment.

You are definitely missing living with family because your cousin Madison was your favorite form of entertainment. But you are sleeping much better at night now that we are in our own place! You don't wake up all night long and think that you need to eat which is such a nice change for me! You do still have a pretty late sleeping schedule but you also sleep in in the morning so I can't really complain. Maybe someday we'll work on moving your sleeping schedule up. We'll see about that!

Here are some other things your dad and I have noticed about you this month:

-You are aware of strangers now and while you'll smile and giggle at them from a distance if they try to hold you you frantically search for Mom or Dad.
-You've started reaching out for people (mostly Mom!) and it is just about the cutest thing ever!
-You kick your legs like crazy all. the. time.
-You still try to walk whenever we are helping you stand up.
-You can roll over but you don't like being on your stomach or back (you'd rather be sitting) so you don't practice it much. I'm sure you'll really figure it out one of these days!
-You like to play with non-toy items more than toys. I'm pretty sure this is normal for most babies but your favorite toys are spoons, lip gloss, and spatulas.
-You still grab at your toes all the time and have gotten really good at taking your socks off.
-You talk to yourself all the time, giggle all the time, stick your tongue out all the time, and spit all the time. It's stinkin' cute!
-You fit into 6 month clothes, and 9 months clothes and even some 12 month size clothes! You're just growing up too fast! And I'm already pretty sure that you will surpass me in height pretty fast. You are a tall girl!
-You are finally getting a TINY bit of hair. I'm sure it's only visible to your parents but it's still exciting! They're just itty bitty adorable fuzzies all over your adorable head!
-You are still the most smiley baby I know and every time you smile at me I am just so glad that you are a part of our family. I'm excited to watch your personality grow and I hope that you always bring joy to those around you!

We love you so much!

Love, Mom and Dad

1 month.

2 months.

3 months.

4 months.

5 months.

6 months.

We didn't get the greatest pictures this month because Holland was just not cooperating. But you can tell how long she's getting! I just can not believe how fast she is growing! I love being Holland's mum!
